Editorial Page Round-up: Reauthorization Wish List
A round-up of editorial pages over the past few days, ranging from qualified support to outright hatin’:
Dallas Morning News – “No Retreat from No Child”: We’ve always loved the law, we want no give-backs on strict accountability, but hey, growth models might be a good idea.
Rocky Mountain News — “‘No Child’ in Need of an Overhaul”: We’ve never believed in the law, although we like standardized testing, but hey, the law should “stop penalizing state governments and local school districts that are unable, despite their best efforts, to accomplish impossible tasks.”
Des Moines Register – “Look beyond No Child law; offer world-class education”: One-size-fits-all forces too much focus on the basics when we should really be worrying about competing with China and India.
And finally, Spartanburg (SC) Herald-Journal – “Don’t Change It, End It”: Let’s be frank. “Tinkering won’t fix this law. It needs to be killed.”
